Walk through the shop, pull open the door of what appears to be a domestic refrigerator, and descend a staircase into Florería Atlántico: a low-ceilinged basement bar that has spent a decade ranked among the finest drinking establishments on the planet.
Tato Giovannoni, Argentina's most celebrated bartender, opened Florería in 2013 with a concept as precise as his technique: a cocktail menu organized by the national origins of the immigrants who shaped Buenos Aires between 1900 and 1920. The sections read like a history of the city. Italy, Spain, France, Poland, England, and a local section where all these influences are synthesized with native Argentine botanicals, yerba mate, and grappa. To drink through the menu is to understand how this city became what it is. Giovannoni's preparation is rigorous: house-made vermouths, fat-washed spirits, locally foraged herbs, fermented preparations that take weeks to produce.
The room itself was designed for intimacy and revelation. Brick vaulting overhead, warm amber lighting, close-set tables that make conversation feel private despite the proximity of other guests. The bar itself runs the full length of the back wall, and the bartenders work with the focused precision of kitchen cooks.
